DALLAS, TX — A 66-year-old Texas man was fatally shot after attempting to sell an iPhone 15 through Facebook Marketplace, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The suspect, 19-year-old Amaya Medrano, has been charged with capital murder in connection to the shooting.
The incident occurred on November 8, at approximately 3 p.m., in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a Valero gas station located on the 300 block of S. Marsalis Avenue. Police discovered the body of Ahmad Alkhalaf lying next to his pickup truck.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Alkhalaf to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased due to his injuries.
According to authorities, Alkhalaf was attempting to sell his iPhone 15 to a potential buyer he had met on Facebook Marketplace. Reports state that surveillance footage from the area showed the two individuals engaged in a short conversation before the suspect turned, shot Alkhalaf, and ran away.
Reports state that police later identified Medrano through distinctive tattoos shown in the footage and traced the stolen iPhone to her Facebook account. Medrano was already on probation for a stabbing incident in 2023 at the time of the shooting.
