LUBBOCK, TX – A Lubbock man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in a domestic violence incident that took place at their home. Police officers responded to a 911 call where a female caller desperately whispered for help.
According to court documents, officers knocked on the door and were greeted by Adrian Meza, 26, the suspect. Inside, they observed the victim who was visibly upset and crying in the living room. The female victim, who appeared to be heavily pregnant, had bruising on her face, a busted lip, and tattered clothing.
She told authorities that she and Meza were in a dating relationship and that the assault occurred after Meza found text messages on her phone that he did not like. She explained that Meza grabbed her around the waist, dragged her to the living room, and kneed her in the face, causing injuries to her lips and bruising on her cheek and eye area.
She attempted to run to the garage while calling for help as the altercation continued. Meza allegedly responded by choking her, covering her mouth and nose, making it difficult for her to breathe. After a brief struggle, Meza released her and slapped her repeatedly.
The female victim, who was learned to be eight months pregnant with Meza’s child, managed to retrieve her phone and secretly call 911. She was examined on the scene by EMS for her injuries, which included pain in her abdomen and facial bruising.
The assault occurred while four young children were present in the home, according to court records.
Meza was arrested by police and declined to speak with officers without legal representation. He was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and booked on charges of Assault of a Pregnant Person, Impeding Breathing or Circulation, Domestic Violence, Unlawful Restraint, and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance.
Meza’s bonds have been received, and he was released on November 18.
