HOUSTON, TX – Dominique Luis-Donte Quinones-Amos, 28, was sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for violent carjacking and other criminal activities, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Texas.
Quinones-Amos pleaded guilty to the carjacking in February 2024. U.S. District Judge Andrew S. Hanen handed down the sentence, including three years of supervised release after Quinones-Amos completes his prison term.
According to the release, the carjacking occurred on October 4, 2021, when Quinones-Amos approached two men in a parking lot in the 4200 block of Dunlap Street. After striking one victim in the face, Quinones-Amos forced the second victim to the ground, hit him with a gun several times, and stole the victim's 2013 Dodge Avenger. Authorities later recovered the vehicle and linked Quinones-Amos to the crime using DNA evidence.
In addition to the carjacking, Quinones-Amos was found to have been illegally possessing firearms despite being a convicted felon. Law enforcement discovered social media posts in which he appeared to be selling guns with extended magazines and firing a modified handgun capable of fully automatic fire. As he was being arrested, Quinones-Amos was found with another weapon.
The investigation also revealed that Quinones-Amos had been selling fraudulent credit cards and money orders under other people's names.
Quinones-Amos has a lengthy criminal history, including previous arrests for burglary, grand theft auto, and a felony assault conviction involving a family member.
He will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
The Houston Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations investigated the case.
