LAS VEGAS, NV — A Las Vegas judge has ordered R&B singer Tremaine Aldon Neverson, better known by his stage name “Trey Songz,” to pay $11 million in damages to Tyrelle Dunn, a Maryland Capitol Police officer, following a 2021 incident in which Dunn was seriously injured while trying to rescue his wife from Songz’s hotel room.
Dunn filed a lawsuit against Songz after alleging that he was attacked by the singer and his security team while attempting to help his wife. According to Dunn, his wife had been with Songz and a group of women in a hotel room at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas during Songz's 37th birthday celebration when she reportedly screamed for help, claiming she was being “held against her will.”
When Dunn arrived at the scene and tried to intervene, he claimed that Songz and his security team physically assaulted him, resulting in serious injuries, including fractured eye sockets and permanent scarring. Dunn also said the injuries caused him to miss work and suffer financial losses.
Despite being cleared of criminal charges related to the incident in 2022, Songz did not respond to the civil lawsuit.
This failure to appear in court led to a default judgment in favor of Dunn, and the judge awarded him $11 million in damages, which will cover medical expenses, bodily damages, and pain and suffering.
The judgment is the latest legal challenge for Songz, who recently had another lawsuit accusing him of sexual assault dismissed.
While Songz has not publicly commented on the $11 million judgment, the ruling marks a significant financial and legal setback for the singer.
Trey Songz is best known for hits like "Say Aah," "Na Na Na,” and "Mr. Steal Your Girl."
It is unclear whether Songz will appeal the decision.
