Thieves Flee and Crash After Idalou Grocery Store Heist

 

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office responded to a theft report from 2 J's Thriftway Grocery in Idalou at approximately 4:33 p.m. on December 4.

According to a press release, the caller reported a theft and identified the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored Ford SUV, providing the dispatch center with the vehicle's license plate number.

As deputies began to pursue the vehicle, the suspect driver fled toward Lubbock. Around 4:45 p.m., the car lost control and crashed into a pole at the intersection of North Spruce Avenue and East Auburn Street. The two suspects then fled the scene on foot.

With assistance from the Department of Public Safety helicopter, deputies tracked the suspects to the backyards of two residences within a block of the crash site. The suspects were apprehended and identified as Billy Owens and Patrick Deleon.

Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. They face charges including Evading Arrest or Detention with a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot, and Theft of property valued between $100 and $750.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information is released.
