21 Year Old Leads DPS Trooper on Wild Chase Through Lubbock

 

LUBBOCK, TX — A 21-year-old was arrested today, December 26, after leading a Texas DPS Trooper on a high-speed chase through Lubbock.

According to a press release from the Lubbock Police Department, the incident started at around 11:13 a.m. when a Trooper tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation on East Loop 289, south of 19th Street.

The driver, later identified as Shane Alexander Epler from Washington, did not stop and sped away from the trooper, starting a pursuit that lasted several minutes. The chase ended across from Texas Tech University at the intersection of University Avenue and between 15th/16th Street, near Saint John’s United Methodist Church. The release stated Epler jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run on foot.

The DPS Trooper quickly caught up with Epler and arrested him near 16th Street and Avenue Y.

Epler was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and Evading Arrest or Detention.

Authorities have not yet released details on the traffic stop that led DPS to pull him over or whether Epler was involved in any other criminal activity. Reports state he was speeding on E Loop 289 when the DPS Trooper caught him. The speed limit on Loop 289 is 65 mph, and 19th Street varies between 35 mph and 45 mph.

The case is still under investigation, and updates will be provided as more information is released.
