LUBBOCK, TX — A 14-year-old was arrested on Friday after stealing a car and leading Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a high-speed chase.
The pursuit started around 10:30 a.m. near Loop 289 and Southeast Drive when deputies tried to pull over the juvenile after running stop signs while driving a stolen 2017 Hyundai Elantra.
The 14-year-old did not stop, and deputies called for backup from other law enforcement units and the South Plains Auto Theft Task Force, according to a release.
The chase went around the south loop before they turned onto the east loop, then quickly made a U-turn and headed back south.
Reports state that LCSO deployed spike strips to stop the vehicle. The juvenile tried to avoid the spikes but lost control of the car.
Deputies were able to arrest the juvenile, and he was taken to a hospital before being booked into custody.
The South Plains Auto Theft Task Force is handling the investigation of the incident.
The juvenile is in custody pending further charges.
