Road Rage Turns Deadly in Big Spring

BIG SPRING, TX — A road rage incident in Big Spring on Wednesday night ended with one man dead and another injured.

According to Big Spring Chief of Police Chad Williams, at around 5:50 p.m. on February 12, police were called to the intersection of 14th Street and Goliad Street after reports of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found Ricky Flores Mier, 38, dead inside a white GMC Yukon.

Another man, a 34-year-old Hispanic male, was also in the vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was taken to Scenic Mountain Medical Center and later flown to UMC Lubbock for further treatment.

Witnesses told Big Spring police that they saw a small black car shooting at the GMC Yukon.

The BSPD Criminal Investigations Division quickly followed leads and found a vehicle matching the suspect’s car in the 600 block of E. 17th Street. Detectives got a search warrant for the residence and arrested Tony Magallanes, 39.

According to Big Spring Police, he has been charged with murder for the death of Ricky Flores Mier and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for injuring the second victim.

The investigation showed that the incident was caused by road rage, and the two parties involved did not know each other.
