LUBBOCK, TX – A man has been arrested after a resident at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center died following an assault.
On February 3, Lubbock Police responded to a call at 2:19 p.m. about the assault of 36-year-old Dominick Balderaz.
The Major Crimes Unit first handled the case, but after Balderaz passed away from his injuries, it was transferred to the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit on February 7.
As the investigation continued, Metro investigators issued an arrest warrant for Jercorye Bracy, 25, on February 13, charging him with Injury to a Disabled Individual, a first-degree felony.
Bracy was arrested by Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Unit officers during a traffic stop at 3:50 p.m. that same day. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, and his bond was set at $150,000.
Authorities also mentioned that depending on the final autopsy results, the way the death is classified could change, which could impact the charges against Bracy.
Right now, the charge of Injury to a Disabled Individual is considered a first-degree felony, which is the same classification as murder.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
