Texas Teen Shoots Mother, Sister While on Edibles

HOUSTON, TX — A 15-year-old boy from Houston was arrested after allegedly eating a large amount of marijuana edibles and shooting his mother and 17-year-old sister late Saturday night.

According to reports, a teenager took marijuana edibles on February 22 with another teenager and an adult when he began to experience physical problems and called an ambulance in a panic, according to Houston police.

When the two others started laughing at him, he allegedly grabbed a gun and called 911 at around 11:00 p.m., threatening to either kill himself or someone else.

Reports state that the dispatcher called back, and the boy's mother answered. She claimed she was unaware of anything unusual happening with her son.

When first responders arrived, they found the teenager in the parking lot holding a gun. He reportedly pointed the weapon at firefighters, claiming he had already shot someone inside. He then threw the gun at them before running away. Police quickly showed up, chased him down, and arrested him.

First responders rushed to the house and found the boy's mother and 17-year-old sister shot multiple times. Both were in "very critical condition," according to police. A third sibling, a 16-year-old girl, was also in the apartment at the time but was not hurt.

Investigators later found that the teen had eaten a large amount of marijuana edibles before the shooting. Police believe this caused him to have a bad reaction and led him to shoot his mother and sister.

"He ended up using the gun to shoot his mom multiple times in the back and his sister several times," said Lt. JP Horelica of the Houston Police Department.

The gun was recovered at the scene, and no firefighters were injured.

A nearby neighbor from the apartment building said, “It could have happened to anybody. He could have walked outside and done anything to somebody. I’m glad it wasn’t me. I feel bad for the family, but now the teenager has to face the consequences.”

Authorities have not yet provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the specific charges he will face.

The victims are undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Houston. Reports state their conditions remain critical.
