Car Breathalyzer Stops Man From Fleeing After Assaulting a Minor

LUBBOCK, TX — A man was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl and attempting to flee the scene but was unable to start his vehicle due to his ignition interlock device.

According to court documents, deputies from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6500 block of East County Road 6700 after a report of a sexual assault. A family member reported that the victim, an 11-year-old girl, had made an outcry to her mother after the assault.

The victim was asleep when Joshua Sanchez, 31, a boyfriend of a member of the household, touched her inappropriately. She stated that Sanchez touched her breasts and attempted to pull down her pants.

Court documents stated that Sanchez tried to leave the scene but could not start his vehicle due to a breathalyzer ignition interlock device in the car.
Deputies observed that Sanchez appeared intoxicated, with slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He was detained at the scene and had given a false date of birth to the deputies. Lubbock County dispatch later confirmed his actual date of birth.

Based on the statements from members of the household, deputies arrested Joshua Sanchez for Indecency with a Child by Contact and Failure to Identify by Giving Fictitious Information.

Sanchez was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and remains on a $100,000 bond.
