Ex-Boyfriend Books It When Cops Show Up to Assault Call

LUBBOCK, TX — A 23-year-old man was arrested after allegedly forcing himself into his ex-girlfriend's house, getting into an argument, and physically assaulting her as she attempted to call 911 before fleeing from police.

According to court documents, Lubbock Police were called to the 2300 block of 20th Street after reports of a disturbance. When officers arrived, they could not find a disturbance until a woman approached them. She told the officer that her ex-boyfriend, Jerry Davis, 23, was inside her house, and she ran outside to get help.

While an officer spoke with the victim, a man unexpectedly opened the patrol car door, looked at the officers, and then quickly shut the door. A neighbor nearby yelled, "he ran that way," and pointed east.

The victim said she thought Davis ran because he tried to escape from police before. Officers searched the area but could not find Davis. When they searched inside the house, they noticed that a screen on a back bathroom window had been kicked out. This matched the direction the neighbor had pointed to.

The victim then told police what happened earlier and said she was in bed when she first heard knocking at her front door, which soon turned into loud banging that “shook the walls of the house.”

When she answered, it was Davis. He pushed his way into the house, and the two began arguing. The victim claimed Davis slapped her in the face with an open hand. She told him to leave, but he refused, and the argument moved into the bedroom.

Court documents state Davis took off his clothes and got into her bed, asking her to have sex with him. When she refused, he climbed on top of her and started hitting her again. She told officers that he tried to choke her, but she managed to push his hands off her neck. Davis also tried to cover her mouth to stop her from screaming, but she was able to turn her head and scream for help.

During the scuffle, the victim tried to call 911, but Davis took her phone and refused to let her get in touch with the police. She finally managed to get her phone back and dialed 911 again. She left the line open as she screamed at Davis to leave, but he told her he wouldn’t leave unless the police showed up. The victim eventually escaped the bedroom and ran to the officer’s patrol car for help.

Officers advised the victim to call them if Davis showed up again. A few moments later, when police left the scene, Davis made his way to the front door and started knocking again. The victim called 911, and officers saw Davis at the front door. When he saw the police, he tried to run away through the side of the house, but officers quickly caught up with him and arrested him.

Jerry Davis was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance, Evading Arrest, and Criminal Trespassing on an unspecific bond amount.

As of March 11, the Lubbock County Jail Roster states LCDC has received Davis’ bond and has been released.
