LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved the largest single-year pay increase, granting an average 13% raise for certified teachers beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.
The unanimous vote, made during the board’s Aug. 28 regular meeting, increases starting pay for new teachers to $50,900. The raise applies only to “teachers of record” as defined by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and is aimed at improving the district’s competitiveness amid growing market pressures.
The board also approved a 3% raise for all other district employees, along with a 14% increase in the pay structure for instructional support staff. Starting wages for those positions will rise to $13.50 per hour, with market adjustments implemented across remaining pay levels.
Most staff members will see the new salaries reflected in their September 2025 paychecks. Those on alternate pay schedules will receive retroactive compensation to cover the same time period. Human resources and payroll officials are currently working to ensure a smooth transition to the updated pay structure.
The raises were made possible in part by additional funding passed during the 89th Texas Legislature’s recent regular and special sessions.
“We have always had that commitment to our teachers…so we can continue to reward our teachers who are building the workforce of the future” said Board President Beth Bridges. The board budgeted approximately $7.5 million dollars to the district budget to implement this pay increase. This pay raise exemplifies the district’s commitment to recruit, reward and retain highly effective educators.
