BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA — Liam Payne, a former member of One Direction, passed away on October 16 in Buenos Aires at the age of 31. Reports indicate that the pop star fell from a balcony on the third floor of the CasaSur Palmero Hotel in the Argentinian capital.
Witnesses have stated that Payne fell from his hotel room shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Emergency services responded promptly, and a red tent has been put up outside the hotel as investigations into his death continue.
The former One Direction singer had been in Buenos Aires for a concert earlier this month, where he was seen attending a performance by his former bandmate Niall Horan.
Payne gained fame in 2010 as part of One Direction alongside Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson. Payne joined One Direction at the group's inception in 2010 after appearing on the show "X Factor."
He was also known for his high-profile relationship with British pop star Cheryl Cole, with whom he shares a son, Bear Grey, born on March 22, 2017.
