LPD Reminds Lubbock to Celebrate the New Year Safely

LUBBOCK, TX – The Lubbock Police Department reminds everyone to stay safe and responsibly celebrate this New Year’s Eve by providing some tips to ring in the new year.

LPD urges people not to drink and drive. Instead, using a ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft or planning ahead by choosing a designated driver for the night could save your life and others. Citibus will also offer free SafeRides on New Year’s Eve until 2:30 a.m.

To help prevent car thefts, police advise locking vehicles and following the "Take, Hide, Lock" rule—take your valuables with you, hide anything you cannot take, and lock your car when you leave it.

If anyone sees anything suspicious or concerning, Lubbock police ask not to hesitate to report it. The Lubbock Police Department is available 24/7. If you see something suspicious or are in danger, call 911 immediately.

Finally, fireworks are still illegal within Lubbock city limits, and officers will be enforcing the rules. Here is a list of places to buy fireworks and where to light them in Lubbock County.

Lubbock Police asks everyone to celebrate safely and watch out for yourself and others this New Year’s Eve.
