LCU’s Brevin McCool Named National Player of the Year

MARSHALL, MN – Lubbock Christian University’s Brevin McCool was named the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), while teammate Ryan Markwardt earned Honorable Mention All-American honors, the organization announced Wednesday.

McCool, who was also named a First Team All-American at third base, becomes the third Chaparral in program history to receive National Player of the Year honors, joining Kerry Richardson (1986) and Keith Hart (1998). The honor is McCool’s second national player of the year award this season after receiving similar recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

The senior slugger capped off a historic season by hitting .406 with a .507 on-base percentage and .936 slugging percentage. He smashed 31 home runs, tying the LCU single-season record, and broke Lone Star Conference records for single-game, single-season, and career home runs. McCool finished with 205 total bases, 84 RBIs, 76 runs scored, 15 doubles, and four triples. His 61 career home runs rank tied for second in program history, and he also ranks among the all-time leaders in RBIs (233, 5th), doubles (57, T-8th), and sacrifice flies (18, T-1st).

Markwardt, a senior right-hander, earned All-Region First Team and Pitcher of the Year accolades from both the D2CCA and NCBWA, and was also the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year. He went 16 starts deep into the season, recording a 3.53 ERA over 86.2 innings with four complete games, three shutouts, and 89 strikeouts. Opponents hit just .253 against him. His 235 career strikeouts place him tied for eighth all-time in program history.

LCU concluded the 2025 season with a 34-23 overall record, placing fourth in the Lone Star Conference at 30-18. The Chaps reached the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year and sixth time in program history.
