LUBBOCK, TX—Texas Tech University has released updated details about the campus closure, including event adjustments, facility closures, and academics.
Below is a list of FAQ’s regarding the campus closure:
Event Adjustments & Cancellations
Is the college campus tour still scheduled for the week of March 17-20?
Yes. Due to an unexpected power outage in the Student Union Building, the tour will now begin at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. The alumni center is located at 2521 17th Street, Lubbock, TX 79409. Free parking is available.
Is the Brooks & Dunn concert still scheduled?
Brooks & Dunn's concert at United Supermarkets Arena, originally scheduled for March 13, has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 20. All previously purchased tickets will be honored. Additional tickets are available, and refunds can be requested at your point of purchase if you cannot attend.
Will spring break shuttles be canceled or rescheduled?
BreakShuttle buses have operated as planned, with departures from campus on Saturday morning. Return service to Lubbock will be on Sunday, March 23, at the following times:
- Houston – 8 a.m.
- San Antonio – 8:30 a.m.
- Austin – 9 a.m.
- Dallas – 9:30 a.m.
Houston and Dallas buses are sold out, but seats remain available for other routes. If your student no longer needs their ticket or has alternative travel arrangements, please contact Parent & Family Relations for refund options at [email protected].
Will the baseball game still be played?
The baseball game scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, has been postponed due to inclement weather.
Facility Closures
The following facilities are currently closed:
- University Recreation Centers
- Student Counseling Center: The center is closed. For psychological emergencies, contact the crisis help line at 806-742-5555 or access telehealth via the SCC website.
- Student Health Services: Walk-in appointments available from 2-4:30 p.m. on Monday. The pharmacy is open from 1-5:30 p.m. on Monday.
- University Libraries
- Museum of Texas Tech
- National Ranching Heritage Center
Power and Internet Status
Is power restored?
LP&L is working to restore power to campus, but rolling outages may continue. Please avoid campus buildings outside of the prescribed entry times and do not attempt to work from or visit campus.
Is wireless internet down on campus?
Yes, internet is sporadic. Power outages will impact wireless connectivity.
Is Raider Red’s Food Pantry open?

Academics
What should we do if we missed or partially completed an exam?
Students will not be penalized for missed or partially completed exams. Instructors have been advised to reschedule and adjust course content as needed. Please reach out to your instructor for clarification.
What about assignments and deadlines?
Instructors have flexibility to reschedule tests and adjust timelines as necessary. Please communicate with your instructor for further details.
Can instructors require students to complete assignments or attend class via Blackboard or Canvas?
No. Some students rely on campus resources for online classes. Instructors are asked to be flexible with deadlines and content to accommodate these students.
Campus Access
When can employees retrieve essential items from work areas?
All employees should work remotely from Monday, March 17, through Thursday, March 20, except those directly involved in campus response efforts. Employees with laptops or tablets in their workspaces can pick them up on Monday, March 17, within a designated time window. Supervisors should coordinate with team members. Faculty with specific needs should contact their dean.
When can students access important items from campus buildings?
Campus remains closed. Students needing to retrieve belongings from academic or administrative buildings may do so with an escort. Contact 742-4OPS (4677) to arrange access.
When will campus reopen?
Please monitor university social media, TechAlert!, and this page for updates. Our priority is the safety and well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
Will the 742-4OPS number be active?
Yes, the number (806) 742-4OPS (4677) will be answered starting at 6 a.m. on Monday, March 17.
What if a department has a delivery expected?
All campus deliveries will be redirected to Central Receiving at 608 N. Knoxville Ave., Lubbock, TX 79415, until Friday, March 21. To arrange pickup, call 806-742-4OPS. For assistance, contact [email protected].
Where can students submit hotel reimbursements?
Students needing hotel reimbursement should submit documentation to Charlene Williams at [email protected].
