Texas Player Hits $800 Million Mega Millions Jackpot

SUGAR LAND, TX A lucky Mega Millions player in Texas has hit the $800 million Mega Millions jackpot after matching all six numbers drawn on Tuesday night.

The winning numbers were 1, 2, 16, 24, 66, and 6, with a Megaplier of 4x. The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at a Murphy USA 8848 gas station in Sugar Land, Texas.

This jackpot is now the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history, with the winner set to receive an estimated $800 million, or $404.2 million in cash.

Alongside the jackpot winner, four tickets matched the five white balls to win the $1 million second-tier prize. These tickets were sold in California, Florida, New York, and Washington.

The last Mega Millions jackpot was won on June 4, when a $552 million ticket was sold in Illinois. The largest Mega Millions jackpot in Florida, worth $1.58 billion, was won on August 8, 2023.

In addition to the jackpot win, an Abilene resident claimed a Mega Millions® prize worth $1 million from the August 23 drawing.

The second-tier prize-winning ticket was purchased at DK #5, located at 2718 N. 1st St., in Abilene and the claimant chose to remain anonymous.

The winning Quick Pick ticket matched all five white ball numbers 28, 30, 44, 66, and 69 but did not match the Mega Ball number, 2.

Mega Millions is played by selecting five numbers from a pool of 70 and one Mega Ball number from a separate pool of 25. Players must match all six numbers drawn, including the Mega Ball, to win the jackpot. While matching fewer numbers does not win the jackpot, players can still win other prizes. Mega Millions currently features a $20 million starting jackpot and a $1 million second-tier prize for matching five white balls.

Drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 10:12 p.m. CT.
