AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) marked its 90th anniversary Monday by launching “90 Days of Safety,” a new statewide public safety campaign aimed at encouraging Texans to take an active role in protecting their communities.
During a press conference at DPS headquarters in Austin, Colonel Freeman F. Martin announced the three-month initiative, which will focus on three 30-day themes: Keeping Texas Communities Safe, Keeping Texas Roads Safe and Keeping Texas Families Safe. The campaign will feature public service announcements, social media outreach and educational programming in DPS driver license offices across the state.
“For 90 years, the Texas Department of Public Safety has answered the call to protect and serve this great state, but we can’t do this job alone,” Martin said. “Texas is better off when we all do our part to keep our communities, roads and families safe.”
DPS also introduced its updated Keeping Texas Safe coloring and activity book, designed to engage children in safety conversations through games, puzzles and tips from K-9 Disco, a real-life explosives detection dog stationed at the Texas Capitol. The books will be distributed statewide this fall through the agency’s Safety Education Service.
The initiative is part of a broader celebration of DPS’ founding on Aug. 10, 1935. In recent weeks, the department has shared historic photos and videos honoring its divisions and milestones over the past nine decades.
