AUSTIN, TX — Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Veterans Commission on Tuesday announced $40.8 million in funding for Veterans’ Assistance grants to support services for veterans and their families across the state.
The funding will be distributed through 190 grants to 160 organizations, with assistance expected to reach more than 125,000 veterans and family members.
“Texas is proud to provide crucial services to support the brave men and women who selflessly served our nation in uniform,” Abbott said. “Through this more than $40 million in state grants, we strengthen services for Texas veterans, their families and surviving spouses, while we empower local organizations to provide critical care and support across our great state.”
TVC Chairwoman Laura Koerner said the grants will provide a wide range of services, including clinical counseling, housing assistance, financial aid and legal services.
The grants fund programs such as assistive technology, elder care, food services, homeless assistance, home repairs, transportation services, veteran treatment courts and service dog programs.
Funding for the grants primarily comes from Texas Lottery games designated for veteran support, along with donations through state licensing and registration programs.
Since 2009, more than $400 million has been awarded through nearly 1,800 Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grants.
