Texas DPS Promotes iWatchTexas Program Ahead of Awareness Day

AUSTIN, TX — As National “If You See Something, Say Something” Awareness Day approaches on September 25, the Texas Department of Public Safety encourages Texans to take advantage of the iWatchTexas program, a tool designed for reporting suspicious activities in schools and communities.

According to a press release, DPS Director Steven McCraw emphasized the vital role of community involvement in enhancing public safety. “Our state is safer when we all do our part to speak up if we see something strange or suspicious—and that includes reporting suspicious behavior or activity in and around schools and in the community,” he stated.

McCraw noted that the iWatchTexas program allows residents to communicate concerns swiftly to law enforcement, increasing safety across the state.

The release states that the iWatchTexas program enables Texans to report any suspicious behaviors or activities that may suggest criminal threats, terrorism, or concerns related to school safety.

DPS highlights the necessity of vigilance, pointing out that preparations for potential crimes or threats often go unreported. The agency encourages individuals to report various suspicious behaviors, including:

  • Comments indicating intent to harm someone.
  • Inquiries about building security from unknown individuals.
  • Social media posts suggesting a possible school attack.
  • Requests for sensitive information, such as security plans, without proper justification.
  • Purchases of materials that could be used to create bombs or weapons.
  • Documentation of security features, such as cameras or checkpoints.

Reports can be submitted through the mobile app, online at www.iwatchtx.org, or by calling 1-844-643-2251. The process typically takes less than five minutes, and each submission is reviewed by law enforcement analysts. All reports are confidential, with optional contact information for follow-up inquiries.

It is important to note that the iWatchTexas program is not designed for emergency reporting. In emergencies, individuals should call 911.
