OLTON, TX — The City of Olton has issued a boil water notice for all residents after microbiological samples from the public water system tested positive for E. coli.
The notice, issued on Wednesday, was mandated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and requires all residents to boil their water before consumption.
According to a press release, residents are advised to boil water before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, washing hands or face, and preparing food.
Special precautions are being advised for children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems who are vulnerable to bacteria.
Residents are advised to purchase bottled water or use water from another safe source for drinking and other purposes.
The city stated that the boil water notice will remain in effect until the issue is resolved, and a follow-up notice will be issued once the precautionary measure is lifted and the water quality is safe.
