LUBBOCK, TX — As Election Day passes, the statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Texas slightly increases to $2.69 per gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. This marks a one-cent increase from last week but is 18 cents lower than the price on this day last year.
Among Texas' major metropolitan areas, drivers in El Paso pay the highest average price, $2.96 per gallon, while those in Abilene pay the least, $2.50 per gallon. Lubbock drivers are paying an average of $2.57 per gallon, a 4 cent jump from last week.
The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $3.11, two cents lower than last week and 30 cents less than last year.
Fuel prices in Texas remain some of the lowest in the country. The Energy Information Administration reports that the supply of refined gasoline stocks increased week-to-week while demand for fuel decreased. Crude oil prices are also down 7% compared to last year, with West Texas Intermediate trading at $69 per barrel.
"Texans are paying some of the lowest gas prices in the country again this week," said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Texas has the third-lowest gas price average in the U.S."
As of now, drivers in Texas continue to benefit from relatively low fuel prices compared to other states.
