LITTLEFIELD, TX — Sandra Garcia-Hernandez, 58, of Littlefield, has been indicted in connection with the fatal overdose of Tyler Perez, 29, of Littlefield, after distributing a controlled substance to him on December 27, 2023.
According to the Littlefield Police Department, emergency responders were called to a residence on W. 6th Street in Littlefield on December 27 after reports of an unconscious person. Police and EMS arrived at the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but Perez was later pronounced dead at Lamb Healthcare Center.
The Littlefield Police Department launched an investigation into the cause of Perez’s death. With assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the investigation led to the identification of Garcia-Hernandez as a suspect in connection with the distribution of the substance that caused Perez’s overdose.
Under Texas House Bill 6, which took effect in September 2023, individuals who distribute certain controlled substances that result in a fatal overdose can be charged with murder. As a result of the investigation, Garcia-Hernandez was indicted by a Lamb County Grand Jury on November 25, 2024, and was arrested the following day.
Garcia-Hernandez is currently being held in the Lamb County Jail with a $250,000 bond.
“The Littlefield Police Department is committed to combating illegal drug distribution and protecting our community,” the department said in a statement. “We appreciate the support of our law enforcement partners, including the DEA, FBI, ATF, and the Lamb County & District Attorney’s Office.”
