LUBBOCK, TX — The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $2.74 per gallon, according to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. This price has not changed much from last week and is 15 cents lower than the same time last year.
Among the major cities in Texas, drivers in El Paso pay the most for gas, at $2.88 per gallon, while those in Laredo pay the least, at $2.58 per gallon. In Lubbock, the average price is $2.61 per gallon.
The national average price is $3.16 per gallon, up two cents from last week but down six cents compared to last year.
Data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows that gasoline demand increased from 8.32 million barrels per day last week to 8.57 million barrels per day. The domestic gasoline supply dropped from 251.1 million barrels to 248.1 million barrels, while gasoline production increased to 9.3 million daily, according to AAA Texas.
"As spring gets closer, more people tend to travel, which drives up fuel demand. Refineries are also getting ready for the switch to summer fuel, which usually leads to higher gas prices," said Daniel Armbruster, a spokesperson for AAA Texas.
"Even though Texas gas prices have stayed the same this week, drivers should be ready for potential price hikes as the weather warms up."
