COPPELL, TX — The statewide average gas price in Texas is currently $2.76 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. This price has stayed the same from last week and is 41 cents lower per gallon compared to this time last year.
Among major metropolitan areas in Texas, drivers in the Brownsville/Harlingen area pay the highest average price, $2.86 per gallon, while those in Lubbock pay the lowest, $2.62 per gallon.
The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.15, three cents higher than last week but 38 cents lower than last year.
New data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows a decrease in gasoline demand, dropping from 8.81 million barrels per day (b/d) last week to 8.64 million b/d.
Domestic gasoline supply also fell from 240.6 million barrels to 239.1 million barrels, while gasoline production dropped to an average of 9.2 million barrels per day.
“Gas prices typically start to rise around this time of year, peaking during the summer months,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
“However, the Texas statewide average for regular unleaded fuel is still about 41 cents lower than last year, thanks to weak gasoline demand and low crude oil prices.”
