LUBBOCK, TX — Texas drivers are seeing a modest drop in gas prices this week, with the statewide average for regular unleaded fuel now at $2.75 per gallon, according to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The current average is one cent lower than last week and 49 cents less than this time last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed, Midland reported the highest average at $2.87 per gallon, while Lubbock had the lowest at $2.57.
Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded stands at $3.14, down four cents from last week and 50 cents cheaper than a year ago.
AAA says the decline in prices to a temporary dip in fuel demand between the spring and summer travel seasons. Additionally, OPEC+ has announced it will increase oil production in June, which could widen the global supply and contribute to further decreases in crude oil prices.
“Texas gas prices have stayed below $3 per gallon since last August,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “With supply outpacing demand and the summer driving season right around the corner, road trippers could enjoy meaningful savings at the pump during their vacation travels in the coming months.”
