LUBBOCK, TX – The Texas Department of Transportation has warned TxTag users about fraudulent texts targeting system users.
TxDOT officials announced on Wednesday that numerous TxTag customers have reported receiving text messages claiming they have overdue or past-due balances.
State agency leaders noted that these phishing texts have been an issue since April but seem to have surged recently.
TxDOT stated that while TxTag does use emails, texts, and phone calls to communicate with customers, it does not send texts regarding final payment reminders or past-due balances.
Verified TxTag messages are sent from the number 22498. Additionally, text and email communications are only sent to customers who have opted to receive them.
Those receiving suspicious texts, emails, or messages are advised not to click on or open any links. Texas Department of Transportation using TxTag’s customer service team on their website or by calling 1-888-468-9824 if you are experiencing any of these messages.
