IDALOU, TX — The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has approved a financial assistance package of $1,632,653 for the City of Idalou as of September 12, 2024.
According to a press release, this funding includes $800,000 in financing and $832,653 in principal forgiveness from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) Lead Service Line Replacement Program.
The approved funds will be used for a significant upgrade to Idalou’s water system, focusing on replacing outdated lead service lines with safer polyethylene ones. This project is essential for ensuring the city’s water remains safe for its residents.
Idalou, located about 10 miles northeast of Lubbock, serves roughly 2,193 residents through its water and wastewater systems. Much of the city’s water infrastructure dates back to the 1950s and includes approximately 498 service lines that may still contain lead, stated the press release.
With this approval, Idalou will receive $832,653 in principal forgiveness and $800,000 in low-interest financing over up to 30 years.
The release also stated that the city of Idalou is also using local funds to complete a lead service line inventory, which must be submitted to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality by October 16, 2024.
