LUBBOCK, TX – According to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Texas has dropped to $2.80. This figure represents an 11-cent decrease from last week and a significant 58-cent reduction compared to last year.

Among major metropolitan areas in Texas, El Paso drivers have the highest average prices at $3.19 per gallon. In contrast, those in Abilene have the lowest prices, paying just $2.59 per gallon.
Lubbock drivers came close to having the lowest prices, paying just $2.65 per gallon.
On a national scale, the average price per gallon of regular unleaded stands at $3.24, which is seven cents lower than the previous week and 60 cents less than this date last year.
Recent data from the Energy Information Administration reveals a drop in gasoline demand, which fell from 8.93 million barrels per day to 8.47 million barrels per day last week.
Domestic gasoline stocks increased from 219.2 million barrels to 221.6 million barrels, though gasoline production decreased, averaging 9.4 million barrels per day. The combination of reduced demand and lower oil costs is expected to contribute to a continued decline in pump prices.
“The statewide gas price average is 18 percent lower when compared to one year ago,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson.
“Fuel price averages should continue to drop as we go through September.
