LUBBOCK, TX — On Monday, Oct. 7, the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant has been released from a Lubbock hospital after being shot by 33-year-old Seth Altman while attempting to serve a warrant.
Authorities have not yet located Altman, who is considered armed and dangerous.
He is described as a 6'2" white male with blue eyes and red/auburn hair, weighing around 220 pounds. Altman has been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive list, and there is a potential reward of $10,000 for any information leading to his arrest.
Chief Plant was shot multiple times while serving a burglary warrant at a home on Thursday night. After the shooting, Altman fled the scene, and Chief Plant was transported to a Lubbock hospital for treatment of his serious injuries.
Many Texans expressed frustration with the Blue Alert issued on Friday morning, which was received as far south as Houston. While the early notification caused some irritation, the reality remains that Altman is still at large and could be anywhere.
The FBI has asked the public for help finding Altman and is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. Tips can be submitted at tips.fbi.gov or by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI.
