LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech University has earned top honors for supporting military service members and their families.
The university is ranked in the Top 10 of Military Times' "Best for Vets" list and received Gold status in the 2024-2025 Military Friendly Schools Awards. Texas Tech also received a Gold Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission.
According to a release from TTU, Texas Tech’s Military & Veteran Programs provide resources to veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. These include academic support, funding opportunities, and access to state and federal resources, creating a veteran-friendly campus environment.
President Lawrence Schovanec expressed pride in the university’s military support in a statement: "Texas Tech has a long history of supporting our military, and we are honored to be ranked among the top 10 universities for veterans. "
The Military Times ranking is based on a survey of veteran-focused programs at universities across the country, which collects data from the U.S. Departments of Education and Veterans Affairs.
Gracie Guerra, director of Texas Tech’s MVP, noted the effort behind the recognition. "Being ranked in the top 10 reflects the support of our leadership, the hard work of the MVP staff, and the entire campus's commitment to veterans," she said.
The release also stated Texas Tech K-12 was named a Purple Star Campus by the Texas Education Agency, the only public school in Region 17 to receive this recognition. Region 17 includes 57 school districts across West Texas.
