LUBBOCK, TX — Texas drivers are paying an average of $2.69 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
This price has not changed from last week and is 10 cents lower than this time last year. Among major metropolitan areas, the Dallas/Fort Worth region has the highest average at $2.83 per gallon, while Lubbock has the lowest at $2.49 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.08, a three-cent decrease from last week and 27 cents lower than a year ago.
AAA Texas is also keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Sara, which is currently developing in the Caribbean. While release says the storm poses no immediate threat to Gulf oil and gas operations, its track northward could change in the coming days.
The latest report from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows a drop in gasoline demand, coupled with an increase in supply levels. Crude oil prices have also gone down, with West Texas Intermediate crude trading at $68 per barrel, down $1 from the previous week.
"Texans are seeing steady and relatively low gas prices, with the state average at $2.69 per gallon, which is even lower than this time last year," said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas.
"With gasoline demand dropping, supply increasing, and crude oil prices softening, we expect these stable conditions at the pump to continue for now, barring any unforeseen disruptions."
