LUBBOCK, TX — A Lubbock woman was arrested on November 28 for public intoxication and bribery after a domestic disturbance call was made at the 1600 block of Ave. W.
Lubbock Police responded to the call and contacted Hanna Meeks, 23, and her boyfriend at an apartment on the property. According to court documents, the initial investigation revealed that an assault between Meeks and her boyfriend had happened, who were both highly intoxicated.
Meeks' boyfriend was transported to another residence, and officers were preparing to leave the area when they saw Meeks exit her apartment and attempt to start her vehicle.
According to the police report, Meeks, while intoxicated, sat in the driver's seat and tried to start her car. Officers were concerned about the potential danger of drinking and driving. After not listening to the many requests to stay inside her apartment, she was arrested for public intoxication.
While being walked to the officer's patrol car in handcuffs, Meeks allegedly offered to pay the officers in exchange for not going to jail, stating multiple times, "I will pay y’all $500 right now."
Due to her actions and the circumstances present in the situation, including her intoxication and attempt to operate a motor vehicle, Meeks was charged with bribery in addition to public intoxication.
Meeks was taken into custody and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center. On November 29, Meeks was released on an unspecified bond amount.
