AUSTIN, TX — One week after being sworn in, Colonel Freeman F. Martin released a video Q&A addressing major issues facing the Texas Department of Public Safety, including Operation Lone Star, traffic fatalities, recruitment efforts, and long driver license wait times.

Colonel Martin, the first Texas Ranger to lead the department, was unanimously appointed DPS' 14th Director by the Public Safety Commission on November 20. He officially assumed the role on December 1 and was sworn in by Governor Greg Abbott during a Change of Command Ceremony at DPS Headquarters in Austin on December 2.
