Double Arrest Made After Central Lubbock Homicide

LUBBOCK, TX — Two people have been arrested following a fatal shooting in central Lubbock on Friday night.

On Friday, February 21, at 8:37 p.m., officers responded to a call about a robbery in progress in the 1900 block of 21st Street. When they arrived, there was no sign of a robbery, and they could not contact the person who made the call.

After returning to the area later, they received information about a different situation at another house nearby. Officers found an unsecured home, entered, and discovered Brittany Blakely, 28, who was unresponsive. EMS arrived and declared Blakely dead at the scene.

The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Forensic Investigation Unit began investigating the case. It was soon determined that Ariyah Jimenez, 19, Nathaniel Moreno, 26, and Blakely had been involved in an argument that led to Blakely being shot.

The police obtained arrest warrants for both Jimenez and Moreno. With the help of the Texas Anti-Gang Center, Jimenez was arrested at 10:18 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, in the 4200 block of S. Loop 289. Moreno was arrested early on Sunday, February 23, at 12:54 a.m. in the 7000 block of CR 6300.

Both suspects were taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with Murder. They are each being held on a $250,000 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing.
