Texas Gas Prices Drop, Lubbock Enjoys Lowest Rates in State

LUBBOCK, TX — Gas prices in Texas have dropped slightly, with the statewide average for regular unleaded fuel now at $2.70 per gallon, according to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

This marks a 7-cent drop from last week and an 18-cent decrease compared to this time last year.

Among the state's major cities, El Paso drivers pay the highest prices, at $2.86 per gallon, while those in Lubbock enjoy the lowest rates, at $2.59 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.12, down 4 cents from last week and 15 cents from the same time last year.

New data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) shows a rise in gasoline demand, with daily consumption increasing from 8.23 million barrels last week to 8.45 million. Meanwhile, gasoline production dropped slightly, averaging 9.2 million barrels per day, and the total domestic gasoline supply increased from 247.9 million barrels to 248.3 million.

AAA Texas spokesperson Daniel Armbruster said that gas prices are expected to remain steady as March arrives, seasonal maintenance wraps up, and routine seasonal maintenance winds down.
