Teen Bully Arrested for Robbery Near Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TX — A 19-year-old man was arrested for robbery after allegedly threatening a victim and stealing his phone, wallet, and keys near Texas Tech.

According to court documents, the Texas Tech Police Department called for backup from the Lubbock Police Department after a robbery was reported at 3600 19th Street on March 9.

Dispatch later updated officers, saying the crime took place off Texas Tech campus at the 2600 block of 19th Street, where TTPD had already detained the suspect, later identified as Zachary Lasserre, 19. LPD was asked to take over the investigation.

When LPD officers arrived, they found Lasserre in the back of a patrol car. TTPD officers explained that they responded to a call where the victim said a male approached him, angrily stared at him, and demanded all his belongings.

Court documents state the victim told police that the Lasserre kept his hands hidden under his shirt as if he had a weapon. The victim then handed over his phone, wallet, and keys. Lasserre then ran off with the items, but officers found him shortly on 19th Street.

The victim described the suspect as a white male with dark curly hair wearing a gray shirt and gray shorts. When police located the Lasserre, he matched the description.

TTPD officers also found a phone Lasserre dropped when they approached him. After entering the victim’s passcode, police could confirm the phone belonged to the victim. Lasserre reportedly admitted to taking the victim’s belongings and dropping the wallet in a nearby alley.

Officers believed Lasserre had threatened the victim to steal his property. He was arrested and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he was charged with Robbery. His bond is set at $25,000.

The victim’s wallet, which contained his ID, credit cards, and keys, was later found in an alley behind 3400 19th Street and returned to him along with his phone.
