Ropes Band Tutor Arrested for Sending Creepy Texts to Teen

WOLFFORTH, TX — A 60-year-old band tutor was arrested on March 14 after allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to a 14-year-old student.

According to court documents, the victim and her father went to the Wolfforth Police Department to report messages sent from a band tutor working at Ropes ISD.

The victim had been taking saxophone lessons from Scott Strobel, 60, and showed authorities several texts sent to her.

One message read, “I’m not going to lie, I have thought about kissing you at times!” In another message, Strobel admitted, “I caught myself staring into your eyes, putting my arm around you, and touching the small of your back.”

A WPD sergeant located Strobel at his workplace, and he agreed to come with authorities to discuss the situation.

During questioning, Strobel admitted to sending the inappropriate messages. He acknowledged that what he did was wrong. He told police it was “a stupid mistake” and that he knew it was "inappropriate to send texts like that to a 14-year-old."

Based on the evidence, Wolfforth Police charged Strobel with Child Grooming under Texas Penal Code 15.032. He was arrested and held at the Wolfforth Police Department.

In Texas, the charge of child grooming is a third-degree felony.
