LUBBOCK, TX — The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents on Monday elected Cody C. Campbell as chairman and Dustin R. Womble as vice chairman during a special-called meeting. The two will serve two-year terms, effective immediately.
Campbell, a Fort Worth energy executive and Texas Tech alumnus, was appointed to the board in 2021 by Gov. Greg Abbott. He becomes the fourth regent from Fort Worth to serve as chairman.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents,” Campbell said. “As a lifelong Red Raider, I’m committed to working alongside my fellow board members to advance the mission of our system and continue building on the legacy of excellence at each of our universities. This institution means so much to me and my family, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to help shape its future.”
Campbell is co-CEO of Double Eagle Energy Holdings and a major donor to the university. In 2022, Texas Tech named the field at Jones AT&T Stadium in his honor following a $25 million gift.
“Regent Campbell has been a passionate champion of his alma mater and the Texas Tech University System since well before his time on the board, and we are thankful for his significant support during his tenure,” said Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., chancellor of the TTU System. “I congratulate him on being elected chair of our board and look forward to continuing our work together for the betterment of our students, employees and each of our universities.”
Womble, of Lubbock, was reappointed to the board last month after his initial 2019 appointment. He previously served as chairman of the Facilities Committee and played a key role in recent campus development projects, including the Womble Basketball and Football Centers.
“It’s a privilege to serve as vice chairman of the Board of Regents and continue supporting the Texas Tech University System,” Womble said. “I look forward to working with Chairman Campbell and my fellow board members to help elevate our universities and ensure we remain a source of pride and progress for all Texans.”
Womble is the founder of INCODE, a tech firm acquired by Tyler Technologies, where he served as executive vice president. He now sits on multiple corporate and nonprofit boards in Lubbock and across the state.
The TTU System includes five universities and is headquartered in Lubbock. It has more than 64,000 students and a $3 billion endowment.
