Snyder Residents Urged to Evacuate After Chemical Incident

SNYDER, TX — Some Snyder residents are being urged to evacuate after a “chemical incident” at the local water treatment plant.

The City of Snyder Office of Emergency Management said the incident occurred at the Snyder Water Treatment Plant due to a ruptured chemical tank.

The area affected is between 37th Street and 25th Street from Avenue M to Avenue J, according to the City of Snyder.

The evacuation was ordered due to concerns about air quality in the immediate area.

Emergency crews were still on site to monitor the situation.

The Scurry County Armory in Towle Park is open for anyone affected by the evacuation who might need a place to go.

The City of Snyder advised residents to avoid the affected area until it is deemed safe.
