Former Randall Basketball Star Identified in Fatal Hit and Run

LUBBOCK, TX — The Lubbock Police Department’s Major Crash Unit is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on Tuesday night, November 19, in East Lubbock, leaving one 18-year-old dead and another injured.

At approximately 7:25 p.m., officers responded to reports of a crash involving pedestrians in the 4000 block of Idalou Road. Authorities say 18-year-olds Zakeria “Zack” Bol and Benjamin Brown were walking northeast on the access road near Erskine Street when they were struck by an unknown vehicle that fled the scene.

Brown was transported by EMS to University Medical Center with moderate injuries, while Bol, a former Randall High School basketball star, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Idalou Road access road was closed in both directions temporarily but has since been cleared.

Bol, who graduated from Randall High School in May, was a basketball player for the Randall Raiders. He led the team to its first state tournament appearance in 2023 and its second in 2024. His death has drawn an outpouring of grief from his friends and family.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact Detective McPherson at 806-775-2762 or Crime Line at 806-741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous.

Further updates will be released as more details become available.
