AUSTIN, TX — A new rideshare service, BlackWolf, is launching in Austin, Dallas, and Houston and offers an unusual twist: armed drivers. The company’s founder, Kerry KingBrown, says adding armed drivers is designed to enhance passenger security.
BlackWolf, founded in Atlanta last year, has expanded its services to several U.S. cities, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, and multiple locations across Florida. KingBrown was inspired to create the company after learning about a friend's experience of being trafficked, which provoked his focus on safety as a central feature of his rideshare platform.
According to their website, BlackWolf offers three service levels: BlackWolf Premium, BlackWolf Armed, and BlackWolf Comfort. The BlackWolf Armed service is the only one that includes armed drivers. These drivers hold active security licenses in their states and drive premium sedans and SUVs.
BlackWolf Premium drivers are required to undergo extensive background checks, have at least four years of experience in military, law enforcement, or security roles, and drive a premium vehicle.
The BlackWolf Comfort service intends to balance safety and affordability. These drivers also undergo thorough background checks and have at least four years of experience in security-related fields, but they drive “everyday vehicles.”
This new ride-sharing approach comes as companies like Lyft and Uber maintain strict no-weapons policies. Lyft bans weapons at its properties and service centers, while Uber prohibits firearms for both riders and drivers, where legally allowed.
BlackWolf's expansion into major Texas cities provides a security-focused ridesharing option for passengers concerned about safety during their trips and wanting to be protected.
