LUBBOCK, TX — The statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Texas is $2.63 per gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. This marks a two-cent increase from last week but is still eight cents lower than the average price on the same date last year.
Among the major cities in Texas, drivers in the San Angelo area pay the highest average price, $2.72 per gallon, while those in Lubbock enjoy the lowest rates, spending an average of $2.36 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.03, which is three cents lower than last week and 19 cents lower than a year ago.
According to recent U.S. Energy Information Administration data, gasoline supply and demand trends are mixed across the country. The busy Thanksgiving travel weekend may have also contributed to slight price increases in some areas of Texas.
“Despite increases in some areas, gas prices in most parts of Texas are at or near their lowest levels of 2024,” said Doug Shupe, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Texas is now the third least expensive state for gasoline, behind Oklahoma with an average of $2.52 per gallon, and Mississippi, where the statewide average is $2.62.”
As of December 5, Texas remains a top state for affordable gas, and prices continue to hover near their lowest of the year.
