LUBBOCK, TX — The average price of regular unleaded gas in Texas has dropped to $2.58 per gallon, down five cents from last week and two cents from last year.
According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, Midland has the highest average gas prices in the state at $2.68 per gallon, while Lubbock has the lowest at $2.39. The national average is $3.03 per gallon, the same as last week and 11 cents lower than last year.
New data from the Energy Information Administration shows a slight increase in gas demand, rising to 8.81 million barrels per day last week. At the same time, the overall supply of gasoline in the U.S. is also growing.
Looking ahead, AAA predicts that gas prices could fluctuate as the year-end holiday travel season approaches. The group expects a record 119.33 million Americans to travel between December 21, 2024, and January 1, 2025, surpassing the travel record set in 2019.
“Gas prices are going down for now,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “But with so many people expected to travel over the holidays, we could see prices fluctuate as demand for gas increases.”
