Texas Gas Prices Rise Slightly, Lubbock Remains Lowest

LUBBOCK, TX — According to the latest AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the average price of regular unleaded gas in Texas is $2.66 per gallon. This is a three-cent increase from last week and the same price as last year.

In Texas’ major cities, El Paso drivers pay the highest average price, $2.94 per gallon, while Lubbock drivers pay the lowest, $2.41 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is $3.07, three cents higher than last week but three cents lower than last year.

The slight rise in gas prices comes after the busy holiday travel season, during which more than 100 million Americans took road trips of 50 miles or more. The higher demand for fuel led to a slight increase in prices across Texas and the country.

“Gas price averages have increased in recent days due to a busy year-end holiday travel period,” stated Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Now that the holidays are behind us and many parts of the nation are facing colder temperatures, demand for fuel will likely decrease, and gas price averages should follow."
