AUSTIN, TX — Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas National Guard announced they continue increasing efforts to secure Texas’ southern border, stop illegal immigration, and stop crime as they work closely with the Trump Administration.
Since the launch of Operation Lone Star, more than 530,800 illegal immigrants have been arrested, along with over 50,300 criminal arrests and more than 43,000 felony charges, according to a press release from Governor Greg Abbott.
A big focus in controlling the U.S.-Mexico border has been fighting the fentanyl crisis. Texas law enforcement has reportedly seized over 622 million lethal doses of fentanyl, enough to kill every person in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada combined, says Abbott.
Abbott also pointed out that illegal crossings into Texas have dropped 87% because of the operation. Fewer crossings indicate fewer migrants to transport to sanctuary cities.
Since 2022, Texas has sent more than 12,500 migrants to Washington, D.C., over 45,900 migrants to New York City, around 37,000 migrants to Chicago, more than 3,400 migrants to Philadelphia, over 19,200 migrants to Denver, and over 1,500 migrants to Los Angeles.
Abbott called the operation a way to reverse the problems caused by federal immigration policies.
“Every person we apprehend, every criminal we arrest, and every drug we seize is one less threat to Texas and the rest of the country,” he said.
Texas, with help from Governor Abbott and the Trump Administration, has a lot of its focus on keeping the border secure and reducing the flow of illegal drugs and crime into the state.
