Lubbock Gas Prices See a Dip, Crude Oil Costs Rise

LUBBOCK, TX — The average price for regular unleaded gas in Texas is $2.69 per gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. This is a one-cent decrease from last week but three cents higher than the same time last year.

In Texas, drivers in El Paso pay the highest prices, at $2.84 per gallon, while those in Lubbock pay the lowest, at $2.52 per gallon.

Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded gas is $3.10 per gallon, up three cents from last week and the same time last year.

While gas supply is up and demand is down, rising crude oil prices are starting to raise concerns. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil has increased by $6 per barrel since the start of the year.

Since crude oil makes up roughly half the cost of gasoline, these rising oil prices could push gas prices higher in Texas as January continues.
