AUSTIN, TX — Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is backing U.S. Representative Jodey Arrington’s efforts to make healthcare more accessible in rural areas. As the Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Miller also oversees the Texas State Office of Rural Health.
In a press release, Miller stressed how important it is for rural communities to have access to quality healthcare, especially as hardworking Texans help keep the country’s food supply running.
Miller supports two major pieces of legislation, the Telehealth Expansion Act and the Second Chances for Rural Hospitals Act.
"The Telehealth Expansion Act is a critical step forward in making healthcare more accessible. It allows millions of Americans with high-deductible health plans to receive telehealth services without first meeting steep out-of-pocket costs. In a state as vast as Texas, where rural residents often travel for hours to see a doctor, telehealth access will be a game-changer."
Miller also praised the Second Chances for Rural Hospitals Act, which would help communities that have lost their local hospitals. This act would allow closed hospitals to reopen as "Rural Emergency Hospitals" and provide emergency and outpatient services.
“No American should ever choose between their health and the distance it takes to reach care,” he said.
Miller finished by saying that healthcare is necessary for rural communities and fully supports Rep. Arrington’s efforts to improve access.
“Healthcare is a cornerstone of rural prosperity, and I stand with Congressman Arrington and his bipartisan coalition in supporting these critical reforms.”
